Description

Discovered by Galileo Galilei. On February the 4th 1617,
The Trapezium, or Orion Trapezium Cluster is a tight open cluster of stars in
the heart of the Orion Nebula, in the constellation of Orion.

crowded with young stars blasting jets of gas in all directions.
It's a dusty nebula that looks like a fuzzy patch around Orion's ''sword''
that hides a large region bursting with immature stars.

low-mass runaway stars have been identified too.
(Stars, flung out into space by the gravity sling-shot effect of other stars)

Regions like this are usually referred to as stellar nurseries,
but this one is not being well run: it is chaotic and seriously overcrowded.

These young stars are spewing jets of hydrogen molecules across
trillions of miles of interstellar space.

Star formation research is fundamental to our understanding of how our own sun, and
the planets that orbit it, were created.
Many of the stars currently being born in Orion will evolve to be just like the sun.

About half the stars within the cluster have been found to contain evaporating circumstellar disks,
a likely precursor to planetary formation. In addition,
brown dwarfs has been discovered
(Gas planets that did not have enough mass
to collapse in on them selves and create fusion)
